The story of Biochar dates back almost 2000 years. In the depths of the Amazon basin, a manmade soil called Terra Preta (aka Dark Earth) is found, Small patches of extremely fertile soil completely different from the surrounding non fertile soil. It is widely deemed as the most fertile soil in the world and was most likely created by pre-Columbian Indians, between 500 BC and 1500 AD.

Terra Preta is unique in that it behaves like a living organism; it is self-renewing. It acts more like a super-organism than an inert material. Over the past decade multiple research efforts have been made to understand how Terra Preta qualities can be induced into our soil, how this ancient practice can be quickened with the use of science and we along with many of the world’s agriculture experts believe that the answer lies in BIOCHAR based soil amendment.
